Contactless Photography

Contactless Photography
In light of the pandemic, I have been thinking about the future and wondering what our new “normal” will be. In an effort to problem-solve during these challenging times, I have been testing how to conduct an entire photo shoot remotely with only the talent on set. Using professional cameras and lighting, I set off to discover what is possible and how to best put existing technology to use. Below are four case studies that illustrate my process and results.
JEFF + CHARLIE
Shot in Los Angeles, captured remotely by photographer from house exterior
Camera set up on tripod and hand-held with instruction, directed + captured by photographer
Duration of setup and shoot: 8 hours

KOURY FAMILY
Shot in Brooklyn, captured remotely from Los Angeles
Camera set up on tripod and hand-held with instruction, directed + captured by photographer
Duration of setup and shoot: 2 hours

JENNI + JOVIE
Los Angeles, CA, captured remotely from house exterior
Camera set up on tripod and hand-held with instruction, directed + captured by photographer
Duration of setup and shoot: 4 hours

ADAM
Los Angeles, CA, captured remotely from photographer’s office
Subject set up seamless, lights, and camera following instructions from photographer
Duration of setup and shoot: 2 hours

CLIENT EXPERIENCE
In terms of the shoot experience, clients and shoot participants will log on to a video conferencing app and see an integrated livestream of the shoot. Images will be displayed in real-time and clients, digital tech, stylists, talent and I will be able to have a creative dialog throughout the shoot.
THANK YOU!
Thanks for taking the time to look at my page. Whether natural light lifestyle or studio with strobe, there are so many facets of my tests I could not fit into this treatment. These include equipment sterilization and delivery, casting for remote shooting, and the multitude of ways we can collaborate with subjects to light, compose and capture images.
Beyond my processes, what I really want to impart is how much I’m working to adapt to the realities of today - that there’s a bespoke approach to making any project shine. I’d love the opportunity to discuss all of this with you more in depth.
With gratitude,
Peter
